He’s Got This

The only thoughts occupying my mind these days are ones related to my husband’s upcoming deployment. This deployment will be a first for my family. One thing I’m sure of as my family enters this new season—God is with us.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.  ~ Isaiah 41:10

The same God here with me today and always is the same God who will be with my husband while he is miles and miles away from home. The same God happens to be with you too wherever you may be. At times, this can be hard for me to wrap my mind around.

Here lies the key. We need to understand who God is.

I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. ~ Isaiah 44:6b

When we know who God is, why would we not find rest and security in Him? When I realize who He is, I cannot help but say, “He’s got this.”

The words from the song Our God is Greater by Chris Tomlin play in my head:

Our God is greater, our God is stronger
God You are higher than any other
Our God is Healer, awesome and power
Our God, Our God...

Our God, whatever your season may be, He’s got this.

How do we develop a better understanding of who God is? We need to spend time with Him and in His Word.

If you continue in my word then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. ~ John 8:31-32

In God’s Word we find comfort and strength. In Him we have absolute security.

If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? ~ Romans 8:31-32

If you were to ask me what scares me most about the months my husband and I will spend apart I would tell you it’s the life I know he will live, which is completely different from what we know. He will have a new normal and it will be a normal I will no longer understand.

We decided we needed something that continues to keep us bonded. It didn’t take us long to remember what that will be—Christ.

For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body…we were all given the one Spirit to drink. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:13

During our time apart we have chosen a piece of scripture that we will both begin and end our day with. As a whole, we will read through Ephesians over and over again but our morning and evening scripture will be from Ephesians 6:10-18.

We will put on the full armor of God.

If you are going through or entering a new season, my prayer is that you know how present God is and how He wants you to lean in to Him. Let Him by your strength.

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~ Isaiah 40:31

What’s your favorite scripture? In times of uncertainty, how do you put your trust in the Lord?
